Gynecologist

The fields of study of gynaecology and obstetrics both focus on the female reproductive system. Gynecology covers treating women who are not pregnant, whereas obstetrics deals with pregnancy and all of the procedures and issues that go along with it.

Gynecology includes both the medical and surgical sciences. Cancers, fibroids, etc. must be surgically removed, whereas many gynaecological ailments require hormonal and other pharmacological therapy.

Obstetrics and gynaecology are both taken as specialisation subjects for aspiring gynaecologists. A medical degree is necessary, then there must be two years of training. Postgraduate training in obstetrics and gynaecology comes next.
