Another name for clinical pathology is laboratory medicine. Through the use of laboratory testing on blood and other body fluids and tissues, procedures are carried out to help the diagnosis or prognosis of disorders. Analyses may use molecular methods in addition to microscopic examination of cellular components.

A medical laboratory, also known as a clinical laboratory, is a facility where tests are carried out on clinical specimens to gather data on a patient’s health for the purposes of illness diagnosis, treatment, and prevention.

Laboratory medicine offers testing in addition to screening for early detection in order to inform treatment choices, forecast results, and, in some situations, establish eligibility for therapy.
